Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana is a government savings scheme for a girl child under 10. Deposits run for 15 years, the account matures 21 years after opening, and the interest is tax-free. This calculator shows the maturity value for your daughter’s age.

How the timeline works

You deposit for 15 years from the date the account is opened. The balance then continues to earn interest for the remaining years with no further deposits, until maturity at 21 years from opening — or earlier, on the girl’s marriage after she turns 18.

Limits and tax

Minimum ₹250 a year, maximum ₹1.5 lakh, across a maximum of two accounts per family (three if the second birth is twins). Contributions qualify under Section 80C and both the interest and the maturity amount are exempt.

Frequently asked questions

What is the current SSY rate?

It is revised quarterly and has been 8.2% recently — the highest of the small savings schemes.

Can I withdraw before maturity?

Up to 50% of the balance can be withdrawn after the girl turns 18, for higher education.

What if I miss a year?

The account becomes inactive and is revived by paying ₹250 plus a ₹50 penalty for each missed year.
