The brokerage line on a contract note is rarely the biggest cost. This calculator adds STT, exchange transaction charges, SEBI turnover fees, stamp duty and GST to show your real profit and the move a trade needs just to break even.

What each charge is

STT is 0.1% on both sides of a delivery trade and 0.025% on the sell side of an intraday trade. Exchange transaction charges are about 0.00297% of turnover on NSE equity. SEBI charges ₹10 per crore. Stamp duty is 0.015% on delivery buys and 0.003% on intraday buys. GST at 18% applies to brokerage plus transaction and SEBI charges.

Why intraday costs less but hurts more

Charges per trade are lower, but intraday traders make far more trades. Twenty round trips a month at ₹60 of costs each is ₹14,400 a year — a hard drag on any strategy.

Rates change from time to time and vary by broker and exchange. Use this as an estimate and check your own contract note.

Frequently asked questions

Why did I lose money on a profitable trade?

Because the gross gain was smaller than the total charges. The break-even figure shows the minimum move a trade needs.

Is delivery really zero brokerage?

Several brokers charge nothing for delivery, but STT, stamp duty, exchange and SEBI charges and DP charges on selling still apply.

What are DP charges?

A flat fee (usually ₹13–₹20 plus GST) charged by the depository each time you sell from your demat account, regardless of quantity.
